I thought I was going to be using this area a bit more than I have been. I'll leave this page up for search purposes or whatever, but for up to date news on upcoming performances and other news, check The Evil Twin Theory - it's updated substantially more often then here, and if there's anything that can't be handled there, I'll point you back here, where the lengthier or more involved stuff would be.

To sign up for the no-more-than-every-other-weekly email list, send me a blank email. Or write something. See if I care. (Hint: I would.)

Hi there,

First, if you haven't received an email from me before, welcome to the family. Help yourself to whatever you like.

Now. There's one real show this week, and it's a doozy. But if you also have Friday Night free, there's a party I'd like to invite you to if you're free and willing and in the area.
(I sure am.)

Friday, March 30 - 8:30 pm
- Dave of Dave's Place, Channel 57 Manhattan Public Access

I & the band (Sanjay, Al & Aashish) will be doing a live performance on this extremely popular Manhattan Cable access show. Now, the studio (near Columbus Circle, behind Lincoln Center) is built especially well for a dance party, and we'd like to bring some friends in and turn it into a gogo dancin' extravaganza, and so I'd love it if you decided to come along. Dress stylish, cos everyone in Manhattan's gonna be checking you out while you dance to the hippity hoppity jumpity rhythms of the band...

Reply to this email if you're interested in joining. There's plenty of dancing room, and the setup is real professional. We'll go eat & maybe drink a little beforehand and get everyone nice & revved up.

If you can't make it in person, please watch Channel 57 at 8:30, and call in and ogle the dancers and heckle the band!

Saturday, March 31, 8:00 pm
- The New Wrong Way Inn
- Route 110, Amityville, NY
This, the Second NYC-Long Island Rock and Roll Exchange Program, features four way-fun acts all in one glorious place!
There's Lunchin, the best djembe-guitar duo since, since, since ever!
There's Andrew Heller & The Boy Wonder, a kicking little pop trio fronted by the baddest-assed twins in this or any town!
There's Esme Montgomery, with her band of happy noisy jumpy pop music gods that have the cool thing down!
And of course your favorite host-slash-power-pop-songwriting band will bring the night home with a set of ultra-new ravers and old stompers to send you back off into the night. (Anyone up for a caravan from the city?)

That's it. Take care of yourselves. Further details as necessary.

Well as of this typing, the snowy apocalypse that had been promised (apparently first) by Nostradamus and since confirmed by every news outlet in the Northeastern US has finally started to arrive here in the East Village, home to Nervous Nero World HQ.

[Personally, I have no idea what the big deal is. I mean, we're like 24 hours into the storm, and the roads are still there, the cars are still around, ... so what, there's a nice blanket out there now, isn't there? Yeah, whatever. That was the end of it. Now... now we can schtomp through it until the slush washes away and get on with Spring, Glorious Spring!]

Here's a couple of excuses to leave the house and have something other than canned goods and bottled water:

Thursday, March 8 - 9:00 pm
and next Thursday (March 15th) - 9:00 pm
- Rose's Turn, 55 Grove Street
- (West Village, 7th Ave. S. at Bleecker - take the Sheridan Sq. 1/9 stop)
Having had a disproportionate amount of fun in some other cabaret rooms in town, I figured what it might be like to actually perform in one for real. You know, like up on stage instead of half tanked & standing on a table by the bathrooms, you know. And thanks to the extremely well-pedigreed comedian Leanna Conley, well, I get to, and in a gorgeous room with relatively cheap booze (always a good thing). This week, I share the evening with her and her one woman show, and next week I'll get all Rat Pack on y'all. But come this week and see Leanna run through some wicked character sketches and I'll be the Sensitive Guy you have grown to dig. And yes, the tables here are sturdy if you feel the urge to stand and deliver.

Saturday, March 10 - 10:00 pm
- The New Wrong Way Inn
- Rte. 110, Amityville
... Here's a story 'bout Mike Ferrari, who was working with some very lovely bands, and they all played rock and roll, in this collective, he built with his two hands. & it's the story of Mike Gallucci, who was fostering a small scene of his own, and he had this great idea for a venue he couldn't do alone. Now these two guys met this other chick named Heidi, and she had this club and so she took them in, and they're trying something new, in this old booze joint, they call the Wrong Way Inn ...

(Oh, alright.) Mike Ferrari's Auralisland collective celebrates 4 years of being in business with a huge party this Saturday at the brand new WWI, featuring the best of Long Island Music, which means, let's see... the Montgomery Cliffs, Mike Gallucci, Mystic Underground, Todd Shea, Collider, Sonny Meadows, Jones Crusher and myself. $5 gets you a full white trash buffet, plus free t-shirts and CDs. It's also the offcial launch of the Aural Fix Communique, a new magazine devoted to original music on Long Island, which is a pretty damned cool concept in itself. [As always with our trips out of town, caravan space is available, and return travel arrangements are assured.]

** You can listen to all of these bands on the web on WCWP on Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3 pm!

: : : :

That's a lot, I know, but both these shows are special, and I just wanted to share.

Thanks for caring and stuff. I'm doing my best here, and I'm glad you're along for the ride.

Next week: Interviews! and more red-hot! cabaret! action!

Something else I'm involved in on Sunday Nights...

THE FUNNY SHEESH COMEDY GAME SHOW!!
at
~ THE SIDEWALK CAFÉ ~
SUNDAY NIGHTS 7:30 pm STARTING JANUARY 14th, 2001!
94 Avenue A at 6th Street, (212) 212-473-7373, No Cover

The Funny... Sheesh Alternative Performance Collective presents "The Funny Sheesh Game Show," an hour of hyperactive, interactive improvisation, games and prizes hosted and misdirected by Jason Grossman. Omnipresent television actor John Hartmann (Spin City, Cosby) and comedienne Sharon Fogarty (Dinosaur Sisters, playwright of Next to Nothing) head an ensemble cast including Karen Christie Ward, Leanna Conley (Baby Machines, Leanna's Little Big Show), pianist Kenny Davidsen, Jason Hefter, Tony Hightower, Lenny Marcus (Friday Nite Videos, The Jim Breuer Show), Al Quagliata, Sam Riegel, Monica Russell, Felicia Scarangello, and Renée Torrière.

Funny...Sheesh will feature highly biased scene studies; yet to be made film classics; show stopping musical numbers and the world's fastest scenes all based on suggestions from the audience. Both actors and lucky audience members will compete for prestigious, yet modest prizes in a fun-filled hour of comedy.

Please note at the Sidewalk Café, there is a happy hour until 8:00 pm. When you buy one drink, the second one's free.

"I urge you to attend. You will certainly see some exceptional talent and more than a few surprises." APPLAUSE! APPLAUSE!

Howdy!

I don't believe I've sent out a proper Happy New Year to purt near anyone, for various reasons, most of them involving my own temporarily slothful hibernatory nature. So let me be the last to wish you the very best of everything you might be wishing for yourself for this wonderful upcoming year. I've had a series of visions this last couple of weeks, and I can honestly say the world makes more sense than before. Which might just mean that I'm getting old or something, or that maybe my mind is just closing, but either way you'd best come on down and check out the following shows, before I lose it completely or maybe live out the rest of my days in bucolic splendor.

I don't even really know what bucolic means, but I like the way it looks there. Anyway.

Tuesday, January 9 - 7:00 pm
Don't Tell Mama, 343 West 46th St

(betw. 8th & 9th Aves.)
This show is not MERELY the actual date of my birthday. You think I'd even bother bringing such a trivial thing up all by itself? Ah, nope. See, this show also falls on the birthday of the host, curator, impresario and Papa Smurf of the Funny Sheesh Empire, Mister Jason Grossman. (Well, actually, his birthday is today, and I'd give you all his email address so you could serenade him, but he's been getting hassles about personal emails at work, so tell you what, come on down tomorrow and give the poor guy some love in person. It's not every day you hit retirement age, you know.) All the usual Funny Sheesh business about a ton of great comedy and music applies this night, maybe more so because of the whole "special" thing. People are just like that. Come be a part of it.

Other upcoming shows:

Thursday, January 25

- Avenue A @ 12th Street

Tuesday, January 30
Manhattan Theater Source
- 170 Macdougal St (@ W. 8th St.)
(Funny Sheesh megafestival!)

... and every Tuesday in February at Baby Jupiter!
