Chico Bangs is Tony Hightower, a songwriter who moved to New York from Toronto at the end of 1999 to pursue his dream. His two full-length recordings of power pop stories and soul anthems, A Single Angry Word from Tony Hightower and Messiahs Galore, have been extremely well received by literally thousands of people on both sides of the border. Now, Chico/Tony lives in a cozy little apartment in the East Village in New York City. He is the Editor of A/M, a zine focusing on songwriters and the arts in Lower Manhattan, and he's looking to get back to writing novels again. When Tony first landed in New York, he was sitting in the front room at the Sidewalk Cafe with Antifolk godfather Lach and poet Jon Berger. Lach, ever the charmer, said, "we should start a pool as to which chick he bangs first." They all had a good laugh, and (thankfully) changed the subject. So Jon called him Chickie Bangs for the rest of the evening, which eventually morphed to Chico (for which Tony was quite grateful), and when Jon was editing A/M and everyone was using pseudonyms, Tony took it as his pen name. And it stuck. Calculate your loans - mortgage calculator for free. . Toronto e s c o r t s |
